The Vari-N-Duo Polarizing Variable Neutral Density Filter adds a polarizer to our popular Vari-ND, offering photographers the same extra-long exposure effects, with the added convenience of a built-in circular polarizer to control glare, improve color saturation, and make white clouds "pop" in blues skies. Use it to turn a waterfall or stream into a cloud of mist, or calm the surface of a lake or ocean. The density of the Vari-N-Duo can be easily changed from its minimum density of approximately 2-2/3 f-stops to 8 f-stops by simply rotating its outer ring. For example, a sunlit waterfall might meter at f/8 at 1/500 -- adding the Vari-N-Duo can let you shoot as slow as 1/2 second at f/8 and still maintain the same exposure while making the flowing water appear to be soft and silky mist. To pan your shot of a speeding car or a duck landing on water, the Vari-N-Duo easily slows your shutter speed to achieve a more dramatic and “moving” background image. Or use “selective focus” to emphasize your main subject, open your lens to its widest aperture in order to minimize depth-of-field, focus, and then dial the Vari-N-Duo to the density needed to correctly expose your image. Since the Vari-N-Duo covers densities from 2-2/3 to 8 f-stops, it replaces multiple solid neutral density filters and possibly even your old polarizer, saving money, time and space in your bag. Instead of framing and focusing your image through a dark conventional solid ND filter, simplly focus and frame with the Vari-ND set at its minimum density, then rotate the outer ring to the desired density. And while moving objects will be blurred, the Vari-ND maintains sharp optical resolution in the scene’s non-moving areas, provided the camera is on a firm tripod. Available in 77mm Standard ring mount. Due to its profile thickness, this filter may cause vignetting on some wide-angle lenses, especially with full frame sensor cameras.
